Beaverdam is a small village situated in the northwestern corner of Hanover County, Virginia. In earlier days, Beaverdam was a railroad town and a staging area for Confederate troops. The historic depot, which now stands and serves the people of the community in various ways, was burned several times during the Civil War. In the early 1980's Hugh and Barbara Joyce felt a need to bring alive this historic landmark. With their efforts and those of other long-time members of the community, the depot was restored and now serves the Beaverdam community. Its support comes from donations of those people in the area who are dedicated to the history of Beaverdam. Beaverdam houses its own SunTrust Bank, Post Office, and funeral home. There are many church denominations in the area. The fire department in Beaverdam was started in 1950 and is home to the first chartered member… Linwood Buchanan, Sr., who is a lifetime member of this organization and currently resides in the Village. In past years, Beaverdam has been home to two motor companies -Ford Motor Company and Trainham Chevrolet. Due to the demise of business demand and other companies in the Ashland/Richmond area, these companies closed. People who were born here tend to still make their home in Beaverdam. It is a helping community where everyone looks out for one another. Find out more about this beautiful county through the "Hanover Site" link below.
