What Zion Christian Church’s Disciples Men
Is All About
President - David Koogler Vice President - Mack Childress

The Disciples Men’s group provides a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and service to the Lord.
Our Men’s group meets on the second Saturday of each month at 8:00 AM. One of our members prepares breakfast for everyone. After breakfast we conduct the business portion of our meeting. Sometimes we schedule a work project or fundraiser after the meeting.
Our fundraising events include car washes and chicken barbeques, and all of the money we raise goes to help our church and community. In addition, our Men are always willing to pitch in and help with chores around the church or help church members and others in our community with projects around their homes.
The money we raise goes to support a number of causes, including supporting families in need in our community with dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We also financially support the Western Hanover Emergency Action Team (W.H.E.A.T.), Hanover Safe Place, paying for a disabled child to attend the Christian Church Special Camp, the Shoe Fund (which buys sneakers and coats for children in the Beaverdam community) and the Christian Church’s annual effort to provide Tools and Blankets to those in need around the world.
The Disciples Men have established a relationship with two organizations in the area that provide very rewarding mission opportunities for service to the Lord.
- Three times a year, we visit the Oak Ridge Juvenile Correctional Center in Chesterfield County. Forty teenage boys who have below average IQ are incarcerated at this facility. These troubled boys are in need of someone to love and care about them. We visit Oak Ridge on the Saturday before Easter and the first Saturday in December to play games with the boys and share refreshments with them. In early July, we prepare and serve a 4th of July picnic for the boys and Staff at Oak Ridge. http://www.djj.virginia.gov/Facilities.aspx?FacilityID=143
- Several times a year, we do projects with an organization called Elder Homes. This organization identifies individuals or families in the greater Richmond community who are elderly or disadvantaged and do not have the financial means to make needed repairs or improvements to their homes. We have completed many Elder Homes projects, including installing several wheelchair ramps, replaced a water damaged bathroom floor, repaired a sunken floor and kitchen counter that was broken, removed worn out carpeting, and repaired a ceiling that had fallen due to water damage. Elder Homes provides the material and the Disciples Men provide the labor to complete these projects. The homeowners are extremely grateful and completing these local mission projects is a very rewarding experience for the Zion Disciples Men. http://www.elderhomes.org/
As you can see . . . Zion Christian Church’s Disciples Men is alive and busy! The men of Zion would like to welcome you to the community and invite you to join our caring, loving church family.
